Parts of Speech
Words are divided according to their positions and usages in a sentence. This is called Parts of Speech. the parts of Speech are Eight in Mumbers. They are : Noun , Pronoun , Adjective , Verb , Adverb , Preposition , Conjunction , Interjection.
Noun is a word whichj is used as the name of a person , place or a thing.
Name of person : Jack, Tom
Nmae of place : Delhi , New york
Name of action : Work , Choice
Name of thing : Pen , Table
Names of books : Hamlet , Ramayana
Names of river : Ganga , Nile
all are nouns
Pronoun is a word which is used in place of a Noun.
Example : Sumit did not go as he was ill.
he , she , they , who , we , I are all pronoun.
An adjective is a word which adds something to the meaning of a Noun or Pronoun.
Example :
1. Angelina is a beautiful girl.
2. The dog is black.
3. Tom is a good boy.
here , beautiful , black and good are adjectives.
A verb is a word which expression action , feeling or existence
Example :
1. New york is a big city.
2. The earth moves round the sun.
3. The cake tastes sweet.
An adverb is a word which adds womething to the meaning of a verb , an Adjective or another adverb.
Example :
1.He writes Spanish fluently. (Modifies verb)
2. Tom is very shy. (MOdifies Adjectives)
3. WE went there quite willingly. (Modifies adverb)
A preposition is a word which is used before a Noun of pronoun to show its relation to some other word in the sentence.
Example
2. Anuradha killed the snake with a stick.
3. He is in the room.
A conjunction is a word which is used to join two words , clauses or sentences.
Example :
1. Anuradha and sachin came here.
2. Tom is foolish but hard working.
3. Do or die
The interjection is word which expresses some sudden feeling or emotions.
Ah! , Alas! , Oh! , Hurrah! , Bravo! , Hello! are some words used as interjection.
